Hey Kids! Get ready to explore and delight in the weird and wonderful world of domestic farm animals! Bring your class on an exciting, interactive and educational tour of Higgeldy Piggeldy Farm.
Our tailor-made guided tours are designed to give children a hands-on experience of domestic farm animals – in a safe, child-friendly environment. Children are able to see, hear, touch and learn about the animals in a way that will inspire them to enhance their knowledge for years to come. Programmes are designed to meet their needs, as well as the changing nature of farm life. As an example, we may combine a farm tour with a show from the nearby snake park and the opportunity to bottle-feed newborn goat kids.
We are also delighted to provide an exciting educational programme designed exclusively for school outings, by educationalist Ali Corbett (founder of Cape for Kids). Tailored to the age and language level of learners, the programme will typically include:
- A talk on the animals using a family of farm puppets
- A guided tour around the farm, looking at the unique characteristics of the different animals
- Hands-on activities, such as drawing a feather or even milking a goat!
To further enhance the educational experience, informative and brightly coloured booklets (available in Xhosa, Afrikaans and English) can be found attached to poles dotted around the farmyard. Exclusively designed for Higgledy Piggeldy Farm, these unique “information stations” are packed with interesting and quirky facts about the various animals.
All outings are designed to ensure children use their heads, hearts and hands. It’s all about helping children to learn and appreciate their environment through a fun, hands-on experience.
