Situated next to the Pickled Fish restaurant, Craft@Kaels offers creative gifts from Africa for all occasions. Owner Tess is passionate about the black-and-white photographs taken by the Into Africa Missionary Project, RoAd. Proceeds of these captivating pictures are returned to the villages featured in them.
There is a lovely selection of pottery crafted by local artists. A large collection of handmade African jewelry is on display, including pieces made with Zulu Teething beads, Job’s Tears (the seed of a grass from Kwa-Zulu Natal), papier-mâché beads and seed beads. Among the many bowls are handcrafted wooden bowls from Malawi, burnt bowls decorated with porcupine quills from Knysna and small soap stone bowls, masks and vases made in Kenya.
You will also find hand embroidered work, hats and bags as well as hair and bath accessories, hand carved African chief chairs, outdoor garden furniture and even a good selection of second hand beach reads.
Workshops for small groups offering individual attention are available during the summer months. Contact Tess for further information.
